Family businesses are all unique, but the reasons they fail are similar. Open Aperture welcomes the opportunity to provide a one-hour (including a few minutes for questions and answers) presentation on why family businesses fail and how not to become a statistic.

This is not an estate planning seminar. Instead, Jim explores things like family drama, lack of a suitable heir, inability of the current generation to leave, and lack of a strategic plan. Understanding the problems is only half of the battle, of course. This presentation offers those in the audience with specific steps they can take to ensure their businesses don’t fall prey to these challenges. 

Additionally, Jim can create and facilitate groups of next generation family business leaders. Through these groups, he can provide helpful content and counsel while allowing individuals to build meaningful relationships with others who face similar challenges. While groups can be customized, the standard is a committed learning group that meets twice per year for three years. Topics covered include the financial aspects of succession, leadership and the challenges of following in a family member’s footsteps, reasons family businesses fail, and strategy.
